When my grandson, Danik, was 9 years old he wanted to learn how to quilt. We spent hours trying to figure out what quilt to make. Finally, Danik decided on a Lego Man quilt. I first had him draw out the pattern on graph paper. Before any cutting, piecing, or quilting was done I taught him the basics of a sewing machine, we practiced straight line sewing on notebook paper, ¼” seams on scrap fabric, how to safely cut fabric with a rotary cutter, and how to carefully use an iron. Then the fun began. He cut his own fabric and had a machine to work with while grandma was busy assisting his!
I quilted his quilt on my Forte and added the binding. He is now the proud owner of a fabulous quilt, and I am one proud Grandma!
